Daniels Named Louisiana’s 2018 Sportscaster of the Year by the National Sports Media Association
New Orleans- June 4, 2019 – WGNO, Tribune Broadcasting’s ABC Television Network affiliate for the greater New Orleans area, is pleased to announce Ed Daniels has been Named Louisiana’s Sportscaster of the Year for 2018 by the National Sports Media Association.
Daniels, who has been sports director at WGNO TV since 1992, is also the creator of WGNO’s Friday Night Football. 2019 marks the 29th year for one of the premier high school football shows in the nation. Daniels has also covered the New Orleans Saints and the LSU Tigers since 1982. This is the third time Daniels has received this honor.
“It is an honor to be recognized by your peers, many who love Louisiana just as much as I do. But, even better is a chance to do this job every day. How cool is that?,” said Daniels.
Said Rick Erbach, WGNO News Director, “Ed’s dedication to Louisiana sports, especially high school sports, is legendary. When you see high school players play on the collegiate level, then on the pro level and then inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame whom do they call when they come home? Ed Daniels!”
The National Sports Media Association, Inc. (NSMA) is an organization of more than 1,000 members that honors excellence in sports journalism.
